Frequently Asked Questions
Will I Remain In Control In Hypnosis?Yes, as all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, you can never be hypnotised against your will. Hypnosis is an alliance between you and the therapist and any suggestions made during hypnosis will only be taken onboard if you are in full agreement with that suggestion. You will always be in control in a hypnotherapy session.
Will I Be Aware Of What Is Happening During Hypnosis?
Yes, when you are in hypnosis, you are very aware and your mind is highly alert and focused on what is being said to you. You will hear and remember everything that is important for you to remember. When in hypnosis, you can move around, the same way as you would during sleep, if you wish to talk, you can do so.
Is Hypnotherapy Anything Like Stage Hypnosis?
No, stage hypnosis is used for entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is used purely for therapeutic purposes. It is a private and confidential process.
Does The Depth Of Hypnosis Vary?
The depth of hypnosis can vary from person to person and does not affect the outcome. You will reach your own appropriate level of hypnotic state in order for you to access inner resources to overcome issues and reach your goals.
What Happens During A Session?
The first part of the session will be an opportunity for you to discuss what it is you want to achieve, how hypnotherapy can help you and a personal history will be taken. Hypnosis will be explained and any questions that you may have about hypnosis will be answered. A range of hypnotherapeutic techniques will then be used in order to help you resolve any underlying issue and create the desired change. An ethical, professional and confidential service is guaranteed at all times.
How Many Sessions Are Necessary?
Hypnotherapy is not a treatment which requires you to attend many sessions. Many conditions, such as phobias and habits, respond rapidly to treatment. In other cases such as weight control, anxiety and depression, these may take further sessions. Only one session is required to stop smoking.
How Long Does A Session Last?
The Stop Smoking session is of 1 hour duration. For other therapeutic purposes, initial sessions are for 1¼ hours and, if required, following sessions are for 1 hour.
